Haunting, heartbreaking
“They speak of rulers, and silence, and footsteps, and priests, and nuns. And you get this impression of a cold world, filled with shadows and light.”
From this post:

at "Troy's Scribbles"
absolutely haunting comment on the recollections of residential school survivors.
from the same post:
"There are graves under that tree she was told. And she was also told how when the wind blows, the branches would sway as a cradle rocking, and she would hear...."
That is a very poignant comment
But, it's from 2008. Bookmark it for next year's awards, though because it is definitely worthy of nomination IMHO. This first annual CFWBA is for 2006 - 2007 posts only.
damn it. Now I need to repace the Impolitical one was well.

One Woman Army
http://onewomanarmy.typepad.com/one_woman_army/2007/08/i-walk-the-line.h...
An excerpt from I walk the line - and I do it alone:
Some might call me stupid.
I might call myself stupid.
But I will not live in fear, and every time I do this, I feel empowered. I feel stronger. I feel like I beat the system somehow. Beat the system of violence, the patriarchy that I live in, all the crap that women go through. Each time I walk, I expect there is a reality I will not make it home safe and sound. And each time I do, I feel stronger, courageous, independent and amazing.
Marginal Notes: The calm before the storm
Polly Jones at Marginal Notes wrote this post in late 2006, which I think is within the rules?
It quotes at length an earlier post of hers, "Choking on my words," which may also be 2006.
Anyway, those two posts were the way that many of us came to know Polly and her blog. The first one led pogge to add her to our blogroll immediately -- he was so impressed with the independence and honesty of that voice.
