My misspent, imperfect youth

or, the stuff you'll find on YouTube that gets you thinking, 'was I really ever that young?'

Most mornings when I wake and look into the mirror I see some middle-age guy with advancing grey hair staring back at me. Who the F*&@ is that guy? Looks  familiar buty can't quite place a name to the face.

At least I still do have a head of hair. Unlike some of my friends.

Sherman, set the WABAC machine to 1979.

They/We were babies. Skinny little boys making noise. Cocksure and invincible. Didn't feel at the time like we were just babies, or maybe that cocksure. Feeling invincible and ready for world domination, perhaps. Then real life gets in the way.

Now flash ahead to 2007.

No, I'm not performing in either of those videos, but they are some of my friends. At least a couple who are among my closest friends.

No, I'm not hung up on 'glory days Just fondly remembering some of the really good times. The best ongoing party in town for three years.

And some of the bad times.

Miss you every day, ya' big stoopid galoot.

Music now.

I no get. Im old.

That looks like a hell of a fun memory though!

If you believe you can tell me what to think, I believe I can tell you where to go......

Those boyz

sure were cute.

The stories I could tell...

and then we grew up, gained weight, got a little jowlier, lost hair, tuned into (no play for) 'Mr. Grey' to varying degrees. Personally, I'm still pretty much what they call 'wiry' and have a full head of hair but I'm still not sure I always recognize the 'guy in the mirror'.

Yeah, the stories I could tell. About cute boyz and cute gurlz from that time. But not here. For private consumption only.

Guess what I'm talking about is that time when you're young, everything seems possible. It's all daring and moving at 100 miles a minute and there are no second thoughts.

Before the loss of innocence.

It's nothing new. We didn't invent it, but every generation, before and after, seems to think it did.

Same as it ever was. ... and so it goes.

Did I mention I really miss the big hairy, full-sleeved drumming beast known to all as 'Dimwit'?
