Problem is, some people refuse to unblinker their minds and I think it's partly, perhaps largely, fear that's blocking the door. I recall as a child feeling the pressure to BELIEVE (but never could) and hearing all the dire consequences of non-belief. 'twas enough to scare most youngsters, apparently, into devout avowals of allegiance.
Add to the mix the follow the mob, papa, leader syndrome and it's enough to make a sane person want to step out of this universe into another.

As a long time aficionado of good science fiction, it galls me whenever I hear, or see in print, L. Ron Hubbard identified as a science fiction writer. He was a 1/4-of-a-cent-a-word hack, until he was inspired to create his own religion, as the only way someone with his talents could ever become wealthy.
Love it

It's a real freaky one, too. Don't worry, kid, it's fiction.
And another one
Which is also fiction. Science Fiction.
But be careful, it could be hazardous to your health and wellbeing.
Everything's cheaper than it looks.
