Nothing in the way of the view

Hello to all and a howdy to the blond blogmistresses.

I have now caught up with my reading of the site. Whew ! I shouldn't stay away so long. I miss good stuff and juicy tidbits.

Howz it goin'!

I have no excuses or explanations for being away, I just didn't keep up. Oh yah - I did paint the outside of the house - but really how long could that take ? Three weeks ... which I blame on poor weather, a questionable work ethic and a bad attitude. I hate painting.

What does the title of this post refer to, you ask ?

I have made reference in the past to my being a flatlander. A born and bred Saskatchewanian. From down south east of Regina.

Well, just for the fun of it I thought I would prove it. I drove about 10 miles ( 16 kilometers ) north of my house and snapped these pictures. There are eight of them, North, NorthEast, East, SouthEast ... you get the idea. I could have taken the in between ones, NNE, ENE, ESE, and so on ... but jeez, what's the point eh ! They give a 360 degree panorama of the horizon. The paved road runs North to South. The big power line runs northwest to Regina.

As you can see it is not a treeless prairie that I live on. Coincidentally I would not be more that six trees wrong if I said that "Every tree you see was planted by man" ( I would be wrong in saying 'man' because there were certainly women involved in the planting also ).

There now ... aren't you glad you came to the 'biggest damn view you can find TM'.  There's lots more to the prairies and Saskatchewan, but I don't want to sound like a Tourism rep.

In fairness I have to say there are flatter places around.  For truly flat just go south of Winnipeg in the Red River flood plain ... but when you go remember to wear your Rider's t-shirt.  You'll be warmly greeted.

Willy!

Great to see you, I had been wondering how you were doing!

Thanks for the pictures. So, is this the place where they say you can watch your dog run away for a week? I laughed so hard the first time I heard that one. It's flat, but nice and green. I like it. You get tornadoes there?

I hope you and the lady of the (newly painted) manor have been well.

:-)

Allo, Allo

Yup, you can watch the dog run for a while. A week is a bit of a stretch, I always heard three days. I can't really judge how far the horizon is away. I've heard that in a truly flat place it's as much as forty miles. I don't think so, the most I would say is eight to ten.

'Tis nice and green at the moment, June's like that ... on a good year.

Tornadoes ? Not so much. Nothing like down in the states. We have had a few over the decades, one in Regina "hit on June 30, 1912, and is still considered the deadliest in Canadian history." I've never seen a funnel cloud. We do get what is called plow winds*. They'll bust up the yard real good. They had one just last Saturday up by Odessa ( 50 miles north ).

* plow wind - Usually associated with the spreading out of a downburst from a thunderstorm;
a strong, straight-line wind in advance of a thunderstorm that often
results in severe damage.

We have been well, thanks.  The lady has gone to a new recipie for cinnimon buns.  Oy, it's like something that was so good you didn't think could get any better, just got better.

I hope things are well with you and yours.

Pretty much like I remember.

:) Glad to see ya willy.
Ill get pics one day of my view for ya.
cinnamon buns? *perk*

It's a fact: 100% of all the people who ate carrots in 1850, are dead.

Pics of ....

... your view. Oh don't go to any bother - I've seen trees before ;-)

Just kidding. I would love to see the thereabouts.

Yes the cinnamon buns are perks. They are all that and more. I would be happy to drive a dozen out to you next time - but sadly, they would be unlikely to survive the trip.

Here ya go.

willy. This is the view out my kitchen window.
Look into the tree.....:)

 eagle

The resident Eagle.

The tree beside that holds the nest.

Well thank you

You have a resident eagle - how cool is that !

Eagles pass through these parts but I don't think they nest here abouts. 'Course we never see them in town only out in the country. We rarely even get crows in town, just grackles, sparrows, robins, doves and some little yellow thing.

Thanks for putting up your thereabouts.

Is it true that Saskatchewan

Is it true that Saskatchewan farmers do not like the Rockies because they feel it obstructs the view of the ocean?
