Tricky trickle logic.

We know that deficits are bad.
It takes years to get out of the hole, as our own nation found out after the Mulroney years. Conservative slash corporate taxes and spend policies are bad for any country that also expects to have things like education and healthcare, and social safety nets.

And Canadians do expect these things.  We are pretty civilized as a whole. We do not usually leave our fellow human beings to rot as some of the hard core right wing are so wont to do.

This Harper deficit, started well before the official recession. Let us be perfectly honest here.

It is also hard to keep people working when a government allows jobs to be shipped  to the third world, so that corporations can pay people slave wages and we can get all our stuff a little bit cheaper. But it isn't only factory and manufacturing jobs, oh no....

Then those same conservatives bleat and whine about how we are saddling our young people with this massive debt. Which is a concern, but obviously they have little concerns in the first place when they install their own slash corporate taxes and spend policies, and allow good paying jobs to be taken out of Canada, and out of the Canadian economy. They will not Tell you this, but what they are doing is a version of Trickle down economics. Reaganomics.

Recall the dirty 30's ? They were caused by the exact same thing as this current global meltdown....Which is a continuation of Harpernomics.

Always a complete and utter failure, but failure for us, is not a failure for them.

So, back to bleating about the massive debt we are saddling our young people with.....

The first things on the chopping block when they decide to declare a WAR on the deficit?

Education, Healthcare, social services, and wages and benefits. All of the things that our young people need to help them pay off the massive debt from the Harper Conservative slash-corporate-taxes-and spend-and-allow-good-paying-jobs-to-be-taken out of Canada, and out of the Canadian economy policies.

It is a self serving system they have going on here.

The sad part is that some people (not in the top 20% who are enjoying the fruits of these policies) hear the word TAXES and their brains shut down at that point. Sort of like Pavlov's dogs. They are perfectly willing to buy into this chain of disaster with their votes and support for the very people that are working against their own best interests.

And so it goes.

Try to buy anything made in Canada now. Good luck with that. The Government doesn't even spend the "stimulus" dollars here, and they just negotiated another round of Canadian jobs away!

And you do know that if you are out of work, and cannot find a job, and need EI? Conservative MP Dianne Finley thinks you are lazy if you expect any of the EI money that you paid into the EI fund that the Conservatives raided in 2008. And  Conservative MP Gerald Keddy, thinks that those on EI when there are no jobs to be had or who cannot take jobs that they can't live on,  are "no-good bastards".

Such contempt for regular Canadians eh?

And Harper loves to take credit for Canada's sound banking system, even though he was trying to dismantle and deregulate it just a very short time before.

This hamster wheel just keeps turning and turning. The reality of the situation?

If people have jobs that have not been shipped off, with living wages and benefits, they can spend more. Then things like education and healthcare are possible. Then our young people are not saddled with massive debt, and little to no education.

With trickle down, the money that the corporations get through tax cuts and purchases from items made by slave labour in the third world, leaves the country and goes to the foreign owners.  Our young people do not get any of the things they need to succeed. The wealthy who can pay for private schools do just fine however.

And that my dears, is just reality. Proven failures for us. But for them? They have goody bags loaded with cash.

That trickle

Is the top 2% pissing on us and laughing about it.

Great post, pale.

Frat boyz....

Bullies and malcontents. LOL.

It's a fact: 100% of all the people who ate carrots in 1850, are dead.

that's the plan

I think they do it on purpose, create the deficit, so that they have justification for a conservative agenda of small government and slashes to public institutions. Mulroney first, the Harper. You see the same in the states. Big deficits by conservative administrations, followed by decimating public goods.

Yup

That is the total agenda.
Just kinda funny how that LOWER taxes dogwhistle gets in the way of some peoples reasoning abilities huh?
I swear. You cannot convince em what is right in front of em.

It's a fact: 100% of all the people who ate carrots in 1850, are dead.

We hear the word deficit

And we automatically think it's a bad thing.

We've been well-programmed by our government.

The Cons seem to be able to even merely mutter the word, and the Libs and Dippers are left handcuffed. They daren't retort that perhaps a damned aggressive campaign of deficit spending is what the beleaguered 'economy' needs to buffer it against the vicious recessionary cycle that seems fated to bring the North American economy to a crash when the very next mega-USian multi-national corporation defaults on its dailies.

I'm pretty sure an average Canadian would, if pressed, agree that while unnecessary deficits should be avoided, necessary deficits are important in avoiding depressions.

Sometimes

it's ok to use credit to pay for stuff like, say, keeping yourself alive (food, clothing, shelter), as long as the plan to pay it back eventually is feasible. You're bang on about necessary deficits, Troy.

I agree.

It is when they say they want to get it down, that they cut all the things that the future generations need.....
And like I say, this deficit was created long before. Corp welfare (tax cuts) and poisoned carrots (GST cuts).....And then a lot of spending on things their buddies wanted.

It's a fact: 100% of all the people who ate carrots in 1850, are dead.

Oh please

They won originally being against the surplus. Canadians were too.

Now they intend to win being against deficits.

Just like people who pay off the credit card then run it up extra. The focus on engineering spending behaviour RATHER than creating jobs and waiting for the logical outcome - shopping - to happen.

Such a backward approach during times of surpluses must finally be a Conservative trackrecord and not fallout from "other people" NOT them.

the media message

In case page readers didn't see the last Government of Canada ads about Harper policies. It lists tax cuts and ends saying "What's in it for ME."

Meanwhile, in Alberta the message is "Everyone gives up a little." Same Conservatives with polar opposite messages. No wonder there is no middle anymore. Conservatives cover both financial extremes at once!

There is no one opposition to it. No matter what you oppose the vote is still Conservative in the end.
