Lessons in "freedom of religion"?
Ok. Blank stare at the utter stoopidity to a statement made by the Conservative brain trust. (I oft wonder if they do use plastic forks around toasters?)
The "leaked" talking points memo (with included threats to the CBC) to Jane Taber over at the Glib and Stale:
“Perhaps Canada’s tax-funded broadcaster needs a lesson in freedom of religion,” the Tories say. “Under the Charter of Rights, neither religious affiliation nor lack of religious affiliation is grounds to deny participation in the democratic life of the country.”
They are bellyaching because the CBC did an interview that exposed the taint of the Religious right and the Harper Conservatives.
Marci McDonald explains the connections, and that legislation is being crafted to cater to a teeny tiny minority of Canadians.
To force everyone to live by their beliefs.
No one said they cannot believe whatever the hell they want. In their private lives. Nope. No one has ever said they must REPENT! and accept common sense and actual decency! Hell no. They can be as draconian, homophobic and misogynistic as they want.
On their own time.
So they are basically whining that they are not allowed the freedom to force everyone to follow their religion then.
Harper conservative/fundy definition of freedom of religion: Not allowed to sneak around and incrementally take others freedoms away......
Always interesting to see the interpretation of the English language, as told by a Harper Conservative.
Up is down, down is up. And compassion is shafting the poor, women and the elderly.
The Cons are always telling us that those from other countries need to adapt and speak the language, perhaps they need to take their own advice?
I have been snarky here, but when you think about it closely, no the Cons and their war room are not that stoopid to actually believe what they say.
They DO think their supporters and the fence sitters, are. And if they actually buy this bullshit coming from the CPC, then they are probably right.
