Shorter FAUX newz: We report.....What? You believed US?

UPDATE: Adding last nights special comment from Keith Olbermann.

This whole story that unfolded in the US in the last two days is actually very important to watch. And to learn from. Recall Kory the Tory's little project over at Sun/Quebecor Media Inc?

Of course the wingnuts are all over it, the National Pap had a whole "full comment" regarding this, and of course they were pooh-poohing the very real and legitimate concerns.

Canada’s Broadcasting Act still presents a serious impediment to the existence of such a channel.

But with the latest FAUX newz scam this week, we can get a good bird's eye view of how the Right wing operates, and how they will skirt those regulations.

They lie. A lot. They squeal like pigs. They manufacture the "newz".

Just a quick rundown of how this latest FAUX Newz scam went down.....Shall we?

Anrdew Breibart, who is a far right wing extremist blogger, posted a video that had been highly edited to show that an Obama admin apointee was a RACIST! Against white folks! (The TeaParty is struggling right now with accusations of racism against them. Completely justified accusations BTW. Stormfront is involved. Nuff said. )

FAUX newz picked it up, and instantly had all their screaming bleached blonde heads, Hannity and Bill O'Leilly DEMANDING a resignation. It was something to behold. Rachel Maddow covered this phenom last evening, really well.

The Obama admin, like Pavlov's dogs, reacted to the bell. They practically rolled over in order to appease the talking heads at FAUX newz.

Just like they did when Faux caused ACORN to disband, and Van Jones to resign. On False charges. 

As shown in that clip, FAUX then spent all day yesterday using the opportunity to slam the Obama admin for reacting to the story without investigating it. Because, they as a supposed news organization apparently do not have that responsibility.

But unlike the other two cases where the charges proved false far later, and it was too late to do anything, Ms Shirley Sherrod spoke out.  She has apologies within a day, and an offered job promotion.

One CNN anchor said something like... Andrew Breibart was going to prove reverse racism,  and ended up punching Mother Theresa.

Breibart? He still thinks his video shows what he says. Because the audience made up of NAACP members laughed at one point of Ms Sherrod's story. I am not shitting you.  He thinks that one laugh, on a video is complete proof that the NAACP HATES white folks.

*Facepalm*

So. How would this all play out here you ask? Because we still have "standards" and all that.

Anatomy of a smear......

A couple months ago, Kory the Tory went after Frank Graves on the air for mentioning the elephant in the living room, the culture wars.

Queue the screaming talking heads and bloggers, DEMANDING that Graves be FIRED! By CBC. Even though he did not work for them. Facts? We don't need no steenking facts.

Graves kind of apologized, and the Liberals and the CBC cowered. VIOLA!

Queue the giant shreiking heads.

See how that has worked here so far? Now add FAUX newz into the mix. A corporate entity, crafted to manufacture and deliver spin. 

FAUX newz north would have a 24/7 venue to scream this story, and with the spinelessness so far demonstrated by our opposition parties?
They would have had those resignations.

Meanwhile, section 3(i)(d) requires the Canadian broadcasting system to

“serve the needs and aspirations of Canadian men, women and children, including equal rights, the linguistic duality and multicultural and multiracial nature of Canadian society and the special place of aboriginal peoples within that society…”

The Current Government, the Minority Harpercons, have been busily dismantling all of these things as it is. They have done everything they can to push the envelope towards their vision of Canada. Which looks unsurprisingly like the US.

Is anyone labouring under any delusions that the rulez will actually have any bearing on the behaviour of FAUX newz north?

And who exactly is going to stand up to their lies? The opposition?
