Canadian Kossacks - Call to Arms!!

O.K., Canadian Kossacks, we're going to put our money where out mouths are, and we're taking the fight to Harper and his cronies before he can get his "Bush-lite" act out from backstage.

The relying cry, tentatively, is to be, "Not In Our Country, Not In Our Names..." Come up with a better one and we'll go with it...

The last straw, for NoPoint, was the Rachel Marsden column in the weekend Sun applauding torture, and I for one am not going to sit by while this garbage is published in Canadian papers...

First things first:

1. Chapters - I can only right now speak for the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) Chapter of Kanuck Kossacks. I live in the GTA, and so do a few other Kossacks. Some of you, I know, are out West, and while the Kanuck Kossack membership will be nation-wide, I'd advise regional Kanucks to get Chapterized, at least with an emailing list for quick action calls, and for informal social get-togethers.

2. Get-togethers - Nothing solid yet, we're still in the planning stages, but there will be GTA-Kossacks meeting before the spring, take that to the bank. We're all busy, so it might take some planning, but we're going to do it...and there should be pictures (end-threat)

3. Site and Leaders - I'm wondering if we should start a site for Kanuck Kossack members, but I think acreativerevolution would probably be a good place to gather online...if anyone has a better suggestion, this is going to be a democratic group. No dictator, everyone's input will be considered. I for one have no desire to be the heavy, so I won't run regardless...

This is just beginning...I'll cross-post at Creative and Docudharma...lots of Kanuck Kossacks at both places...

We're going to bring politically-conscious and decent Canadians together, and we're going to make our voices heard...

So...

....

Who's In?

I'm no Kossack

but I'm in -- Harper and Co. are a threat to all that is Canadian. A CPoC majority would take "creative destruction" to an entirely new level. Am relatively GTA-situated (a couple hours West on the 401). Use bastardlogic-at-gmail-dot-com if you want to add to any mailing/meet up list.

Oh

and I think ACR is an excellent central point of contact for this worthy endeavour.

Sounds Like a Plan...

gonna be an interesting winter...

I think I can speak for all

of the Creative Revolutionaries when I say we would be happy and proud to host this ass-kicking venture.

I'm In

I agree with Matt that this is a great place to start. I'm thinking over the slogan, feels like it has done before. I'm thinking along the lines of "We Don't Follow Failure", needs work.

Settled...This is the Place...

I've only one question:

Who the hell picked the drapes?

TMWNP

We have drapes?

*blink*

I thought I had painted all the windows black?

Powers that be, powers of three, keep me strong during this insanity......

Don't forget the hard goddamn work

being done by the folks @ Bread & Roses.

Mastermind "April Reign", the Birth Pangs crew, as well as us folks on the Blogging Change roster (etc etc etc) are all fightin' hard against the Blue tide that threatens to drown all vital social programs (especially those geared towards women) in the Tory bathtub.

Additionally, establishing contact with unions (eg, CUPE), women's groups (eg, FAFIA) and other trad advocacy groups would also be a good idea.

It's now officially time to man (and woman) the keyboards

The good news - My LTE was published in today's Toronto Sun.

The bad news - They added an, not unexpected, editorial note/reply under it.

(Marsden was giving her opinion about whether coercive interrogation/torture is justified in order to obtain intelligence information from unlawful enemy combatants, an issue which is now being widely debated in the United States.)

Which has prompted me to write back and let them know that I (and we) am not retreating.

To whom it may concern

While, I do appreciate the publication of my recent LTE regarding Rachel Marsden's mis-characterization of waterboarding as being similar to 'swimming lessons' your editorial note in response leaves with no choice but to notify you that I and many other Canadians will now be contacting your advertisers, particularly those whose ads have been served up on Ms. Marsden's column web page.

A list of these advertisers has already been circulated on major Canadian and American blogs. Readers will be advised to contact these advertisers with their concerns, and boycotts of their goods and services, as well as all your publications, will be suggested until such time that you, as Fox News and the National Post have done beforehand, release Ms. Marsden from your employ. Some of these advertisers do rely to some extent on American tourism. The US readership will be advised to avoid these companies and organizations.

I believe most, if not all of these advertisers would not wish to be associated with such a vile, immoral 'opinion' which condones, supports and makes light of the physical torture of human beings. And may I remind you again that there is no 'justification', American debate notwithstanding, for torture.

Such an opinion has no place in the Canadian media.

Since the only thing that may get your attention is to be hit in the pocketbook we will be moving forward with a concentrated letter campaign to your advertisers. I can only hope that this may finally get your attention.

Ms. Marsden does not represent Canadian values or opinion. Condoning illegal activity is never justified. Would you print her opinion if she had written, 'one man's paedophilia is a another man's tender loving care'? I would think not.

Reconsider your position on Ms. Marsden's employment. We will make a lot of noise if that is what it takes.

Sincerely,
<Frank Frink's real name and contact info>

As all businesses the almighty $$$ rules. Let's see if their advertisers want to be associated with Stalker-girl and 'torturous' analogies/opinions.

Everything's cheaper than it looks.
