1,000,000 volt stun gun - collect all four!

Sometimes, 500,000 volts just isn't enough. You know, for when your intended target is younger than 79 years old or perhaps is bigger than a 5'1", 160 lb. 82 year old woman suffering from dementia. Citizen groups challenging your police force's use of 50,000 volt weapons? Hah! You'll show them!

Now, for those times were you may need to take down, say, an elephant, the good people at We Got Security dot com will be happy to sell you the Firestorm 1,000,000 volt stun gun! Yes indeed, next time you're patrolling the airport and get a call about an escaped circus animal, you will now be SAFE! The Firestorm collectible stun gun has not 500,000, not 800,000, but ONE MILLION attacker-stopping volts! And did I mention that it's collectible? It comes in four gorgeous colours, and is shaped like a "piece of art or a flashlight", so you can surprise a maurading rhinocerous. Who would suspect a hot million volts coming from a piece of art? Not me! AND - it's also a flashlight so you can actually see your target, instead of trying to guess whether it's an insane crackhead or a frustrated and agitated foreign national who's been stranded in an international airport for 10 hours! Can it get any cooler?

But wait - there's more! Perhaps you don't want to get so close to that elephant, grandma, or war protester. What if you'd like to incapacitate someone from a nice, safe 100 feet away? Well now you can! Taser introduces the XREP - eXtended Range Electronic Projectile, combining blunt impact with Neuro-Muscular Incapacitation. I don't know about you, but I'm so excited that I could just get down on the ground and convulse! Next time a cop in riot gear has a 12-gauge shotgun pointed at you, don't be afraid - you might just get hit with one of these little beauties instead of a bullet. A word to the wise demonstrator - don't try to grab the XREP and rip it off of you:

Another innovative and unique feature of the XREP nose is the reflex engagement electrode. A normal reaction to the pain of a projectile impact is for the subject to grab at the impact site. If the subject tries to grab or disconnect the XREP projectile, the reflex engagement electrodes complete a circuit allowing TASER NMI to discharge from the Nose Electrodes, through the subject’s body, out to the hand that grabbed the XREP. This creates a significant spread that allows the XREP pulses to affect a large body mass, causing overpowering Neuro Muscular Incapacitation.

This amazing (crowd control) technology will be released for pilot testing in the fall of 2007 (that's now - woot!), and should be ready for production release just in time for the US 2008 Presidential election. Could you plotz? I know I could!

(H/T to Million-Volt Taser Pimp Billy, who made an appearance in The Galloping Beaver's comments. Don't taze me, bro!)

An interesting article today.

Three-quarters of people hit with RCMP Tasers were unarmed: reports

Three out of four suspects stun-gunned by the RCMP were unarmed, indicates a review of 563 cases that shows Tasers are often used for compliance rather than to defuse major threats.

A Canadian Press analysis of Taser incidents reported by the Mounties reveals that more than 79 per cent of those zapped were not brandishing a weapon.

Love that "compliance" line there....

Couple examples in this article...

Inmate advocate Kim Pate, executive director of the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies, says the wide use of Tasers in non-life-threatening cases is "a travesty."

Stun guns were initially billed as a police alternative to lethal force, she said in an interview.

-snip-

"What we're seeing is that they're using them in situations to subdue, gain compliance or perhaps even punitively when someone has reacted in ways they don't approve of."

An officer guarding RCMP cells in Pukatawagan in northern Manitoba warned an offending prisoner this way: "Let me introduce you to the Taser. It is able to produce 50,000 volts of electricity. Co-operate with us and you will not be stunned."

Nonetheless and without further noted intervention, the unarmed suspect was touch stunned - a close-range Taser zap that some have likened to leaning on a hot stove.

Yup. And a fabulous blog post I saw today.

Tasers, Videos and The Death of Robert Dziekanski

Really, what about those that cannot speak? With the significant increase, and willingness on the part of many police to use this electroshock, who will protect those who are for whatever reason unable to comply?

Chilling. Heartbreaking thought.

Edit: Another one.

A Frederick man is dead tonight after police, attempting to break up a fight, taser him. The incident happened shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday. Police were called to the 7000 block of Gresham Ct. East for reports of a fight in progress.

When police arrived they found four people actively engaged in a brawl. While attempting to break up the fight, police tasered a 20-year-old man who subsequently went into cardiac arrest. He was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

At the top of that page in the link there are ads for the city Police.... "wear the badge, protect with pride. "

Indeed.

Ok. One more edit, adding to that last story. Theres more......

A hearing-impaired man died Sunday after a sheriff's deputy zapped him with a Taser gun. Police say the deputy was breaking up a fight. The young man's mother says it was a case of excessive force.

"I want my baby back and no one can bring my baby back," said Tanya Johnson.

Her son, 20-year-old Jarrel Gray, died after being shocked in the parking lot of a townhouse complex about 5 a.m. Sunday.

Powers that be, powers of three, keep me strong during this insanity......

Should I act surprised?

or would that look suspicious?

Everything's cheaper than it looks.

Just stay calm citizen

Think good thoughts.

Or we can declare you an enemy of the state
